22 September 2021
Well done to Caty Marsden for winning a poster prize at the Loughborough School of Aeronautical, Automotive, Chemical and Materials Engineering (AACME) Research day. Caty presented her research towards macromolecular dual imaging agents.

Sam wins Best Presentation
8 September 2021
Big congratulations to Dr Samantha Bodman on winning the presentation prize at the 1st Women In Supramolecular Chemistry/vMASC workshop. Sam gave both oral and poster presentations, detailing the design of lanthanide complexes for anion binding.

Interview with Steve in Thieme Chemistry
22 August 2021
Steve gave an interview as part of the Thieme Chemistry Journals Award, which was published as a Young Career Focus in the Synform September issue. Steve is very grateful to the Thieme editorial board for the opportunity to discuss the group’s recent achievements in synthetic supramolecular chemistry.

A Chiral Lanthanide Tag for Studying Proteins
21 July 2021
Our latest paper presenting a chiral lanthanide tag for stable and rigid attachment to cysteine residues in proteins is now published in Chemistry - A European Journal. In collaboration with Prof. Gottfried Otting (ANU), we demonstrate the versatility of the tag for studying proteins using multiple spectroscopic techniques, including NMR, EPR and time-resolved FRET. Check out the paper here.

Caty wins award for best oral flash presentation
02 July 2021
Huge congratulations to Caty Marsden for winning best flash presentation prize at the virtual RSC Chemical Biology and Bioorganic Postgraduate Symposium. Caty presented her PhD research into the development of macromolecular MRI contrast agents.

Transmembrane Transport of Bicarbonate Unravelled
03 May 2021
A new luminescence assay for monitoring bicarbonate transport across lipid bilayers is now published in Chemistry - A European Journal. This collaborative project developed after a conversation with Hennie Valkenier (Université Libre de Bruxelles) at ISMSC in Quebec City. Check out the paper and front cover here.

*PhD Position Available for Oct 2021 Start*
Jan 2021
We have a PhD position available in synthetic organic chemistry and chemical biology. See the full advert and apply here.
The project will start in October 2021 and involves the synthesis of new luminescent host molecules that bind and discriminate between biological anions, allowing enzymatic processes to be visualised in living cells. Application deadline is 14th February 2021.
If you have any questions about the position, please email Stephen directly (s.j.butler@lboro.ac.uk), attaching a CV.
